友谊赛 friendly
顾名思义，友谊赛是指为了增进友谊﹑交流经验﹑提高技术而举行的体育比赛。如：The impressive nature of their 1-0
friendly win in Germany in March prompted critics to reassess their
preconceptions.今年三月，他们在友谊赛中以1比0击败德国队，这使得评论人士对先前的预测进行重新评估。
热身赛warm-up
热身赛是指运动队参加重大比赛之前所举行的准备性的比赛。如：The Bayern Munich winger had missed the
Netherlands’ two previous warm-up matches, against Mexico and Ghana, due to a
hip problem. 拜仁慕尼黑队的边锋由于臀部受伤，已经错过了荷兰对阵墨西哥和加纳的两场热身赛。
预选赛qualifying game
预选赛是指在决赛或本赛之前进行的比赛。如：Though the USA and Mexico are always heavy favorites
to advance to the World Cup, qualifying games are never easy, especially on the
road. 虽然美国和墨西哥队都是入围世界杯的热门球队，但是预选赛阶段从来都不是那么轻松的。
小组赛group match/group phase
小组赛是指当一项比赛的队伍太多时，通过公平的方式来平均分配几个小组来分别比赛，然后胜出的队伍再次比赛，直到决赛。如：Argentina will
face Greece, Nigeria and South Korea in the group phase.
阿根廷队在小组赛阶段将迎战希腊、尼日利亚、和韩国队。
循环赛 round robin
循环赛是每个队都能和其他队比赛一次或两次，最后按成绩计算名次。如：The tournament will be a round robin for
all the high school teams in the city. 本届全市中学队锦标赛将进行循环赛。
淘汰赛 knockout round
在淘汰赛中赛员两两相对，输一场即淘汰出局。每一轮淘汰掉一半选手，直至产生最后的冠军。如：This season, the Second Group
Phase has been abolished in favor of a two-legged knockout round.
本赛季，原先的第二阶段小组赛改为两回合的淘汰赛。
1/4决赛quarter-final
1/4决赛：8个单位分4组比赛，胜者进入1/4决赛。如：The draw for the quarter-final matches was held
Friday morning at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
1/4决赛的抽签仪式周五早晨在位于瑞士尼翁的欧洲足球协会联盟总部进行。
半决赛semi-final
半决赛：4个单位分2组比赛，胜者进入决赛(前两名)。如：Our team just scraped into the semi-finals.
我们的球队勉强挤进半决赛。
决赛final
决赛是经过竞赛(或者更广义的竞争中)的前几次或前几轮后，决定名次的最后一次或最后一轮比赛。如： The World Cup final is
being transmitted live to over fifty countries. 世界杯决赛现在正向五十多个国家现场直播。
